Blooming Museum
In the rooms of the Museum Faesch there were not only man-made objects. On an elaborately crafted cabinet with a shelf, the 'buffet', lay: "/ Zwey Cocus Nuss. An Indian thane cone. A small bundle of turquoise."
Remigius Faesch collected both dried plants and botanical books and worked on his own natural history encyclopaedia. An important part of his collecting activities were also living plants, for which the actual museum room was unsuitable. For them, the garden behind the house served as an extension for him to cultivate rare plants from near and far. Gardens were not uncommon in the context of collections. They allowed botanists, apothecaries and other collectors to grow, sell, exchange and examine plants in living form.
